In 1800, a year after returning to the United States, Morris was again elected to the US Senate. An overzealous federalist, he was defeated in a re-election in 1802. Morris returned to Morrisania to retire after a brilliant life and build a new life. In 1809, he married Anne Cary (Carey) Randolph in Virginia and had a son. During the last year of his life, he continued to speak against the Republican-Democratic faction and strongly opposed the war of 1812. In 1810-1813, he was Chairman of the Erie Canal Commission. Married to Mary White at the age of 35, he is the father of 5 sons and two daughters.
